GHX Jackshaft Worm Gear electric door operator has been designed primarily to operate large industrial type doors such as rolling curtains, multiplex, multiblade, vertical lift or any upward acting door in hazardous locations where flammable vapours, combustible dusts, or ignitable fibres or flyings may be present in the air in quantities sufficient to produce an explosion.
Explosion Proof Three Button Control:
Momentary contact type for up, down, stop. Operator may be stopped in any position and door moved up or down from that position. Down button can be wired for constant pressure when specified. Control circuit 24V AC for users protection.
Reduction:
Worm gear reducer, single stage, running in an oil bath, 40:1 ratio, C flange design, alloy cast iron housing, No. 50 roller chain and sprockets from operator shaft to door shaft. Door speed: 7″ (18cm) per second approx.
Adjustable Automatic Friction Clutch:
Will protect door and operator in case of obstruction (optional at extra cost).
Chain Hoist:
Equipped with a disconnect device which allows a person to disengage the operator from the door and operate the chain hoist from the floor by hand in the event of power failure without having to remove the drive roller chain. Limit switches will not go out of adjustment when hoist is used.
Explosion Proof Limit Switches:
Rotary type, friction free with oilite bronze cams and precision micro switches, for automatic stopping of door in up and down positions, easily adjustable without tools.
Reversing Contactor:
Heavy duty type.
Explosion Proof Safety Interlock:
Electrical interlock switch automatically cuts off control circuit power in operator when chain hoist is in operation.
Mounting:
Left and right hand (must specify). Right hand shown.
Manual Overload Relay:
For overcurrent and under voltage protection (can be reset manually).
Explosion Proof Motors:
3/4 HP (559.5W), 1 HP (746W), 1-1/2 HP (1119W) or 2 HP (1492W), 120V or 240V single phase, 208V, 230V, 416V, 460V or 600V three phase. 2 HP (1492W) not recommended on single phase motors. C.S.A. and U.L. approved.
Sideroom Required:
20″ (50cm) minimum.
Finish:
Primed with rust-proof primer and spray painted in blue hammertone enamel.
Three-button control station:
Open/Close/Stop by momentary pressure. The buttons are protected against any accidental pressing; connections on screw terminals, maximum voltage 600 volts. The components are housed in an explosion-proof enclosure approved by C.S.A. and U.L. for use in the following hazardous locations: 7D, 9E, F, G – Class I (group D) – Class II (groups E, F, G) – Class III (divisions 1 and 2).
Starter:
A robust-type reverser, composed of two three-pole relays each operated by a hinge-type armature with three suspension points and mounted on a common frame. A mechanical interlock prevents any simultaneous operation. Each relay is equipped with auxiliary contacts (single or double pole as needed) and its coil is powered at 24V AC. The load contacts can break a non-inductive load of 15A @ 120V AC, 10A @ 240V AC, and 5A @ 600V AC. The terminals are of the “Quick Connect” type (0.25″ – 6.35mm). The useful life of mechanical parts is 10 million operations.
Gear reduction:
The single-stage worm gear speed reducer (40:1 ratio) consists of a hardened and ground steel screw that drives a bronze alloy gear; the input and output shafts, also of hardened and ground steel, rotate in tapered roller bearings and are bathed in oil. The spaces between the cast alloy housing and the shafts are sealed by double-contact seals held in place by springs, keeping the oil inside and the dirt outside. Maximum input power of 2 HP at 1725 RPM – maximum output torque of 1380 in/lbs at 44 RPM – maximum radial load on the output shaft (dia. 1″) 1100 lbs. The door speed is approximately 7″ (18cm) per second.
End of course:
System composed of two “oilite” antifriction bronze cams with notches that are retained and guided by a galvanized steel stop bar that is held under the tension of two springs. The cams move on a steel shaft (5/8″ D. x 10-3/4″ L. – 1.56cm D. x 26.88cm L.) threaded (N.F.) that rotates in a pair of prelubricated ball bearings. When the cams arrive at positions chosen in advance during their adjustment, they actuate one or the other of the switches to stop the operator in a fully open or closed position. The switches require a maximum push of 4 oz. (113.3g). The spacing between their contacts is 0.020″ (0.5mm), and their terminals are of the “Quick Connect” type of 0.25″ (6.35mm). The limit switches of this operator are enclosed in an explosion-proof EEMAC 7 or 9 enclosure.
Frame:
Assembly of thick steel beams and steel gussets bolted together for maximum rigidity.
Control:
The components are enclosed in an explosion-proof enclosure (aluminium alloy casting) made according to C.S.A. and U.L. standards for the following categories: 7D, 9E, F, G – Class I (group D) – Class II (groups E, F, G) – Class III (divisions 1 and 2). Inside dimensions 10″ X 8″ X 6″ (25cm x 20cm x 15cm). The internal connections of the enclosure, as well as those between the enclosure and the motor (inside flexible conduits and explosion-proof joints), are factory-made according to the above-mentioned standards. The enclosure is equipped with a removable cover for easy maintenance and is attached to the machine frame with four galvanized steel bolts.
Manual thermal protector:
Used to protect the motor from current overloads or voltage drops. It is manually reset.
Control transformer:
The control circuit is powered by a step-down transformer with a power of 25 volt-amps. The primary voltage is either 120, 208, 230, 240. 416, 460, or 600 volts AC and the secondary voltage is always 24 volts AC.
Emergency winch:
A manual drive system for the door in case of power failure that can be activated at ground level by a disengagement lever to disengage the door mechanism from the operator, engage it on the endless chain, and release the electromechanical brake without having to remove the roller chain that controls the door. This assembly consists of an aluminium sprocket, a transfer lever, a suitable length of 1/8″ (0.31cm) steel cable, a suitable length of polished steel sprocket chain, a chain guard, and a disengagement lever.
Safe electrical interlock:
When the chain winch is engaged, a normally closed contact (housed in a suitable enclosure) is activated and cuts off the motor control circuit’s power supply. This arrangement protects both the operator and the door in case someone operates a control button without knowing that the power supply has been restored.
Motors:
The motors used in these operators are of the “squirrel cage” type and designed for continuous use. They are offered in the following power ratings: 3/4 HP (559.5W), 1 HP (746W), 1-1/2 HP (1119W), and 2 HP (1492W) and can be powered at 120V or 240V AC single-phase (capacitor start) or at 208V, 230V, 416V, 460V, or 600V AC three-phase. Their rotation speed under load is 1725 RPM, they rotate on life-lubricated ball bearings and are mounted in an explosion-proof housing (EEMAC 7 or 9). The shaft diameter is 5/8″ (1.56cm) or 7/8″ (2.22cm) depending on the power. Special windings for other voltages available on request. These motors are approved by C.S.A. and U.L. for use in hazardous locations. The use of the 2 HP motor on single-phase mains is not recommended.
All internal electrical connections are factory-made according to a standardised colour code. The wires for external connections are labelled to indicate their functions. A connection diagram is provided with each machine, and each is load-tested at the factory before shipping.
