The components are housed in an explosion-proof box approved by C.S.A. and U.L. for use in the following hazardous locations: 7D, 9E, F, G – Class I (group D) – Class II (groups E, F, G) – Class III (divisions 1 and 2).
Adjustable automatic friction transmission:
A non-combustible fiber disc is compressed by a powerful spring and a self-locking adjustment nut between an aluminum disc with a diameter of 4″ (10cm) and a thickness of 1/8″ (0.31cm) which is pinned to the transmission shaft and a single-groove pulley 8″ in aluminum. This transmission can be adjusted according to the dimensions and weight of the door and serves to protect both the operator and the door if it encounters an obstacle.
Starter:
Robust type reverser, consisting of two three-pole relays each actuated by a hinge-type armature with three suspension points and mounted on a common frame. A mechanical interlock prevents simultaneous operation. Each relay is equipped with auxiliary contacts (single or double pole depending on needs) and its coil is powered at 24V. A.C. The load contacts are capable of interrupting a non-inductive load of 15A. @ 120V. A.C., 10A. @ 240V. A.C., and 5A. @ 600V. A.C. The connection terminals are of the “Quick Connect” type (0.25″ – 6.35mm). The useful life of the mechanical parts is 10 million operations.
Gear reduction:
The first stage of this ultra-robust gear reduction system consists of two aluminum alloy pulleys (one 2″ – 5cm and one 8″ – 20cm) of type B, carefully balanced, and a “V” belt (width 5L); the second stage consists of five toothed wheels No. 41B12 and three toothed wheels No. 41B36 linked together by No. 41 roller chain and mounted on cold rolled steel shafts with a diameter of 1″ (2.5cm) which rotate in high speed, self-lubricating and self-aligning ball bearings. All the pulleys and toothed wheels are keyed or pinned to the shafts. The door travel speed is about one foot/sec. (0.3m/s).
Drive unit:
The very robust frame of this unit is made up of hot rolled steel angles (2″ x 2″ x 1/8″ – 5cm x 5cm x 0.31cm) and steel plate gussets. The assembly is welded together to achieve maximum rigidity.
Limit switches:
System composed of two “oilite” anti-friction bronze cams with notches that are retained and guided by a galvanized steel stop bar which is held under the tension of two springs. The cams move on a steel shaft (5/8″ D. x 10-3/4″ L. – 1.56cm D. x 26.88cm L.) threaded (N.F.) which rotates in a pair of pre-lubricated ball bearings. When the cams reach the positions selected in advance during their adjustment, they actuate one or the other of the switches to stop the operator in full open or closed position. The switches require a maximum thrust of 4 oz. (113.3g). The spacing between their contacts is 0.020″ (0.5mm) and their connection terminals are “Quick Connect” type 0.25″ (6.35mm). The limit contacts of this operator are enclosed in an EEMAC 7 or 9 explosion-proof box.
Control:
The components are enclosed in an explosion-proof box (aluminum alloy casting) made according to the standards of C.S.A. and U.L. for the following categories: 7D, 9E, F, G – Class I (group D) – Class II (groups E, F, G) – Class III (divisions 1 and 2). Internal dimensions 10″ X 8″ X 6″ (25cm x 20cm x 15cm). The internal connections of the box as well as those between the box and the motor (inside flexible conduits and explosion-proof joints) are made in the factory according to the above-mentioned standards. The box is equipped with a removable cover to facilitate maintenance service and it is attached to the machine frame by means of four galvanized steel bolts.
Control transformer:
The control circuit is powered by a step-down transformer with a power of 25 volt-amperes. The primary voltage varies between 120, 208, 230, 240, 416, 460 or 600 volts A.C. and the secondary voltage is always 24 volts A.C.
Emergency winch:
Manual door drive system in case of power failure that can be operated at ground level by a clutch lever to disengage the door mechanism from the operator, engage it on the endless chain and release the electromechanical brake without having to remove the roller chain that controls the door. This assembly consists of an aluminum sprocket, a transfer lever, an adequate length of 1/8″ (0.31cm) steel cable, an adequate length of polished steel sprocket chain, a chain guard and a clutch lever.
Robust electromechanical brake:
This brake consists of a 4″ diameter aluminum alloy drum keyed on the motor shaft and a pair of shoes lined with friction bands that are tightened around the entire perimeter of the drum (360o) by an adjustable spring mechanism. The drum stops the motor as soon as the power to the electrical solenoid is cut. This brake, which is mounted on a rigid steel plate and protected by a No. 14 gauge steel box, is self-adjustable to compensate for normal wear of the bands.
Safe electrical interlock:
When the chain winch is engaged, a normally closed contact (housed in a suitable box) is actuated and cuts off the power to the motor control circuit. This arrangement protects both the operator and the door in case someone operates a control button without knowing that the electrical power has been restored.
Explosion-proof motors:
The motors used in these operators are of the “squirrel cage” type and designed for continuous use. They are offered in the following powers: 1/3 H.P. (248.6W), 1/2 H.P. (373W), 3/4 H.P. (559.5W), 1 H.P. (746W) and can be powered at 120V or 240V A.C. single-phase (capacitor start) or at 208V, 230V, 416V, 460V, or 600V A.C. three-phase. Their load speed is 1725 RPM, they run on lifetime lubricated ball bearings and are mounted in a rigid 56C size frame. The shaft diameter is 5/8″ (1.56cm). Special windings for other voltages are available on request. The use of the 1 H.P. motor on a single-phase network is not recommended. For hazardous locations. Approved by C.S.A. and U.L.
All internal electrical connections are made in the factory according to a standardized color code. The wires for external connections are labeled to indicate their functions. A connection diagram is provided with each machine and each one is load tested in the factory before shipment.
