Control:
The components are enclosed in a stamped box made of 14 gauge hot rolled steel sheet. The box is fitted with a removable cover for easy maintenance. Its dimensions are 8″ X 10″ X 5″ (20cm x 25cm x 12.5cm) and it is attached to the operator’s frame with four galvanized steel bolts. The internal connections are factory made.
Starter:
This is a robust type reverser, consisting of two tri-polar relays, each actuated by a three-point hinge type armature and mounted on a common frame. A mechanical interlock prevents any simultaneous operation. Each relay is equipped with auxiliary contacts (single or double pole as needed) and its coil is powered at 24V. AC. The load contacts can cut a non-inductive load of 15A. @ 120V. AC, 10A. @ 240V. AC, and 5A. @ 600V. AC. The terminals are “Quick Connect” type (0.25″ – 6.35mm). The life expectancy of the mechanical parts is 10 million operations.
Limit Switches:
This system consists of two oilite bronze anti-friction cams with notches that are retained and guided by a stop bar made of galvanized steel sheet that is held under the tension of two springs. The cams move on a steel shaft (5/8″ D. x 10-3/4″ L. – 1.56cm D. x 26.88cm L.) threaded (N.F.) that turns in a pair of pre-lubricated ball bearings. The cams, when they reach the positions chosen in advance during their adjustment, actuate one or the other of the switches to stop the operator in the position of full opening or closing. The switches require a maximum push of 4 oz. (113.3g). The spacing between their contacts is 0.020″ (0.5mm) and their connection terminals are of the “Quick Connect” type of 0.25″ (6.35mm).
Manual Thermal Protector:
Used to protect the motor from current overloads or voltage drops. It can be reset manually.
Reduction:
The BSD model operator uses a “V” belt (4L width), a cast iron type A single groove pulley with a diameter of 1-1/2″, and two carefully balanced 7″ cast aluminum pulleys as primary reduction. Four No. 41B9 steel sprockets and two No. 41B23 sprockets, connected by RC-41 roller chain, are attached with expanding pins to cold rolled steel shafts of 5/8″ (1.56cm) and 1″ (2.54cm) respectively which are supported by four ball bearings (flanged type) of 5/8″ (1.56cm) and by two similar ones of 1″ (2.54cm). This assembly constitutes the secondary reduction which drives the output shaft. The door travel speed is about one foot/sec. (0.3m/s).
Power Unit:
The very robust frame of this unit is made of steel parts, web and reinforcement gussets, joined by welding to produce the maximum rigidity. The dimensions are: 10-1/2″ in width, 20″ in length, and 7-1/2″ in height (26.25cm x 50cm x 18.75cm).
Command Transformer:
The power supply to the control circuit is through a down transformer with a power of 25 volt-amperes. The primary voltage is 120, 208, 230, 240, 416, 460 or 600 volts AC depending on the case, and the secondary voltage is always 24 volts AC.
Adjustable Automatic Friction Transmission:
A non-combustible fibre disc is compressed by a powerful spring and a self-locking adjustment nut between a 4″ diameter (10cm) and 1/8″ thick (0.31cm) aluminium disc, which is pinned to the transmission shaft, and a 7″ single groove aluminium pulley. This transmission can be adjusted according to the size and weight of the door and serves to protect both the operator and the door if it encounters an obstacle.
Overhead Carriers:
Each consists of two parallel hot rolled steel angles (2″ x 2″ x 1/8″ – 5cm x 5cm x 3.1mm) and mounted with hot rolled steel rods (3/8″ – 9.5mm). Two cast aluminium alloy trolleys are driven in opposite directions by two No. 41 or No. 40 roller chains in closed loops for smooth and frictionless operation. The two carriers are connected to the operator through two gears and two toothed pinions mounted on 1 D. shafts that turn in four ball bearings to drive each half of the door (one to the left, the other to the right).
Robust Electromechanical Brake:
This brake consists of a 4″ diameter aluminium alloy drum keyed on the motor shaft and a pair of shoes lined with friction bands that are tightened around the entire perimeter of the drum (360o) by an adjustable spring mechanism. The drum stops the motor as soon as the power supply to the electric solenoid is cut off. This brake, which is mounted on a rigid steel plate and protected by a 14 gauge steel sheet box, is self-adjusting to compensate for normal wear of the bands.
Control Station:
Three pushbuttons, fully protected against accidental push, allow the motor to start in the direction of opening or closing and also to stop it at the mere momentary touch of a finger. They are designed for normal use, enclosed in a non-sealed box, and can withstand a maximum voltage of 600 volts AC. The terminals are screw type.
Motors:
The motors used in these operators are “squirrel cage” type and designed for continuous use. They are offered in the following powers: 1/3 HP (248.6W), 1/2 HP (373W), 3/4 HP (559.5W), 1 HP (746W) and can be powered at 120V. or 240V. AC single-phase (capacitor start) or 208V., 230V., 416V., 460V., or 600V. AC three-phase. Their load speed is 1725 revolutions per minute, they run on lifetime lubricated ball bearings and are mounted in a rigid 56C format frame. The shaft diameter is 5/8″ (1.56cm). Special windings for other voltages available on request. The use of the 1 HP motor on a single-phase network is not recommended.
All internal electrical connections are factory made according to a standardized color code. The wires for the external connections are labeled to indicate their functions. A connection diagram is provided with each machine and each is checked under load at the factory before shipment.
