EHJW Jackshaft type electric door operator has been developed mainly for locations where atmospheres contain dust, oil, liquid vapours or water. Doors of either sectional overhead, vertical lift, high-lift, or rolling curtain construction are ideally suited for operation by this unit. Many other types of doors can be equipped with this operator, providing the door has a shaft as the basic driving element.

Three Button Control:
Momentary contact type for up, down, stop. Operator may be stopped in any position and door moved up or down from that position. Down button can be wired for constant pressure when specified. Control circuit 24V AC for users protection.

Rugged power unit of this operator utilises a large size V belt (5L) and heavy pulleys for primary reduction, roller chain and steel sprockets for secondary reduction to the output drive shaft. Pulleys and sprockets are mounted on 1" (2.5cm) C.R. steel shaft rotating in high speed, precision, self-aligning pillow block bearings, for efficient long lasting hard working high traffic operation. Door operating speed approx. 1.0ft (.3m) per second.

Chain Hoist:
Equipped with a disconnect device which allows a person to disengage the operator from the door and operate the chain hoist from the floor by hand in the event of power failure without having to remove the drive roller chain. Limit switches will not go out of adjustment when hoist is used. Also provides safety mechanical interlock to protect operator and door when power is restored, and if push button is pressed accidentally, the door will not move until disconnect lever is place to electric mode.

Solenoid Disc Brake:
To prevent door from coasting and secure locking of door in closed position.

Limit Switches:
Rotary type, friction free, oilite bronze cams and precision micro switches for automatic stopping of door in up and down positions, easily adjustable without tools.

Reversing ContacTOR:
Heavy duty type.

Universal Mounting:
Right or left side.

Manual Overload Relay:
For overcurrent and under voltage protection (can be reset manually).

1/3 HP (248.6W), 1/2 HP (373W), 3/4 HP (559.5W), 1 HP (746W) 120V or 240V single phase, 208V, 230V, 416V, 460V or 600V three phase. 1 HP (746W) not recommended on single phase motors.

Sideroom Required:
20" (50cm) minimum.

Primed with rust-proof primer and spray painted in blue hammertone enamel.


Three Button Control:
Momentary contact type for open, close, stop. Fully guarded, weatherproof, 600V AC maximum. Screw type terminal.

Adjustable Friction Clutch:
4" (10cm) diameter aluminium disc attached to rotating shaft to one side of which a 4" (10cm D. x 1/8" (.31cm) disc of non-flammable clutch fibre material is applied. One 8" (20cm) H.D.V. belt pulley is compressed by means of heavy compression spring and castellated threaded nut, securely locked with 3/16" (4.8mm) cotter pin. Friction clutch system can be adjusted as easily as required depending on door size and weight. Clutch will protect door and operator in case of obstruction.

Motor Control:
Heavy duty reversing contactor, two sets of three pole contactors on a common frame, mechanically interlocked to prevent simultaneous closure, clapper-type armature with three point suspension, auxiliary contacts SPDT or DPDT (as required) on each armature, coils 24V AC. Load contact amps, resistive @ 120V AC 15 amps, @ 240V AC 10 amps, @ 600 V AC 5 amps. Terminals .250" (.625cm) quick connect; mechanical life 10 million cycles.

This extra rugged power unit drive, utilises one 5L V belt, one 2" (5cm) and one 8" (20cm) type B die cast aluminium alloy pulley balanced for smooth operation and primary reduction. Five 41B12 and three 41B36 steel sprockets with RC40 and RC41 roller chain (all sprockets pinned or keyed on 1" (2.5cm) precision self-lubricating, self-aligning, high speed pillow block bearings, for secondary reduction to the output drive shaft. Door operating speed approx. 1.0ft (.3m) per second.

Unit Chassis:
Heavy steel frame assembly is made from 2" x 2" x 1/8" (5cm x 5cm x .31cm) H.R. steel angles, reinforced with steel plates end welded together for greater strength.

Limit Switches:
Rotary type friction free oilite bronze cams, grooved and lock guided in a spring loaded formed galvanised steel plate. Cams are fitted on 5/8" x 10-3/4" (2.05cm x 26.88cm) C.R. steel shaft with N.F. threads which rotates in lubricated high speed ballbearings. Cams on their preset travel, activate micro switches to cut power of motor control in both open and close directions of door. Operating force on limit switches 4 oz. (113.4g) maximum, contact separation .020" (.05cm). Terminations .250" (.625cm) quick connect.

Manual Overload Relay:
Protects operator from overcurrent and under voltage. Can be reset manually.

Electrical Control Cabinet:
Factory pre-wired, made from sheet metal, construction of suitable rigidity and designed to meet EEMAC and C.S.A. classifications type 12 and type 4. Size 8" x 10" x 5" (20cm x 25cm x 13cm) with removable cover for easy service and maintenance. Mounted on unit chassis with four zinc plated steel bolts.

35VA step-down transformer:
120V AC primary to 24V AC secondary.
240V AC primary to 24V AC secondary.
208V, 230V, 416V, 460V, 600V AC primary to 24V AC secondary.

Emergency Chain Hoist:
Combined with a floor operated disconnect which, when pulled, will disconnect the electrically driven solenoid brake and engage the chain hoist for manual operation in the event of power failure, without having to remove the main drive chain. Assembly consists of one grooved aluminium pocket wheel, lever arm, one coupling, 1/8" (.31cm) D. pull cable, 7/16" (11.1mm) D. bright polish chain, wall chain keeper and disconnect arm.

Heavy Duty Solenoid Brake:
Made from one 4" (10cm) diameter aluminium alloy wheel mounted on keyed motor shaft, lined brake shoes with 360o exterior compressing force, through spring loaded mechanism. Brake drum stops door when electromagnetic solenoid is deenergized. Mounted on heavy duty steel plates protected in 14 ga. steel enclosure. Brake mechanism is on the self-adjusting type.

Safety Electrical Interlock:
Where floor operated disconnect lever arm is in manual position the secondary drive through coupling mechanism is free, permitting door and operator to be independent from each other. Those given safety mechanical interlock to protect operator and door when power is restored and push button is pressed accidentally. Limit switches will not go out of adjustment when door is used manually.

T.E.F.C. rated for continuous duty (capacitor starting on single phase models) 1/3 HP (248.6W), 1/2 HP (373W), 3/4 H.P. (559.5W) or 1 H.P. (746W), 120V or 240V single phase, 208V, 230V, 416V, 460V or 600V three phase. 1725 RPM, ballbearings permanently lubricated, frame rigid type 56C, shaft 5/8" (2.05cm) diameter. 1 HP (746W) not recommended on single phase motor. Other voltages available on request.

Unit is factory pre-wired, colour coded and tagged.
Wiring diagrams are enclosed with each operator.
Operator is pre-run and tested before shipment.

A fire release mechanism is required on our Models EHJ - EHJW and EHJX when they are used to drive an automatic closing fire rolling curtain type door. When the ambient temperature reaches 160oF (71oC) a fusible link opens, allowing a spring loaded device to disconnect the operator drive mechanism from the door shaft. This mechanism is shown in the photograph for illustration purposes only; the actual position of "V" belt drive and chain hoist mechanism is shown on drawing below.
