Special applications


The model RDOF has been developed mainly to power fire-rated rolling doors. Patent-pending fusible-link fire release system, incorporated with the operator brake mechanism, will, in the event of fire or heat above 160oF, (71oC)automatically release operator door and allow descent of curtain at controlled speed, eliminating the need for expensive safety-governors and fusible-link drop-levers, normally used to retard closing speed of door. Door must be counter-balanced up to 85% of curtain weight and built in accordance with the Under Writers Laboratories of Canada (ULC) requirements. This unique cylindrical and compact design has universal mounting: left or right. Can be installed in front of door curtain without the need for additional sideroom.

Planetary gear reducer 80:1 ratio, lubricated and sealed for life. Cast aluminium alloy housing. 3/4" (19.05cm) D. output shaft. Door speed: 8" (20cm) per second approx.

Limit Switches:
Rotary type with "oilite" bronze cams and precision micro switches for automatic stopping of door in open or close positions. Easily adjustable externally without tools.

Motor Controller:
Relays with solid state p.c.b.

Three Button Control:
Momentary contact type for open, close, stop. Operator may be stopped in any position and door moved up or down from that position. Control circuit: 120V. A.C.

Magnetic Brake:
Saucer-type, magnetic brake system will prevent door from coasting and secure locking of door in closed position.

Chain Hoist:
RDOF operator is equipped with built-in automatic engage device. The pull-of-hand chain allows a person to open or close the door from the floor, in the event of power failure, without having to remove the drive roller chain. Limit switches will not go out of adjustment.

1/2 H.P. (373W), 110V. or 220V. single phase only, with built-in thermal cut-out, will cut-off power to motor when temperatures reaches 212oF (100oC). Will restore power to the control circuit automatically when temperature drops to 158oF (70oC) (approx. 8 minutes).

Primed with rust-proof primer and spray painted in blue hammertone enamel.


Three Button Control:
Momentary contact type for open, close, stop. Fully guarded standard duty 250V. A.C. maximum. Screw type terminal. Control circuit 24V. A.C. for user's protection.

Motor Control:
Heavy duty reversing contactor, two sets of three pole contactors on a common frame, mechanically interlocked to prevent simultaneous closure, clapper-type armature with three point suspension, auxiliary contacts, SPDT or DPDT (as required) on each armature. Holding coils 24V. A.C. Contact rating: resistive: 15 amps @ 120V. A.C., 10 amps @ 240V. A.C., 5 amps @ 600 V. A.C.; inductive: 2 H.P. (1493W) max. Terminals: .25" (.63cm) quick connect. Mechanical life: over 10 million cycles.

Electrical Control Cabinet:
Factory pre-wired, made of 14 ga. C.R. steel, pre-formed EEMAC 1 enclosure, size: 8-1/4" x 5-3/4" x 5" (21cm x 15cm x 13cm) with removable cover for easy service and maintenance. Mounted on unit base with four zinc plated steel bolts. Control mounting plate can be removed without dismantling main enclosure.

Planetary gear reducer 40:1 ratio with steel alloy gears, heat treated hardened and ground for greater wear life. High speed taper roller bearings, double lip spring loaded seal to keep lubricant in and dirt out. The reducer housing is cast in design alloy, lubricated and sealed for life. Lubricant temperature: 125oF to -30oF. Output shaft: 1" (2.54cm). Door speed 8" (20cm) per second approx. Maximum lift capacity: 1364 lbs (620kg). Maximum door area: 560 sq. ft. (52m2).

Centrifugally-operated saucer type, spring loaded brake system, will stop motor and door when power is cut-off, preventing door from coasting and secure locking of door in closed position. Brake automatically releases when motor is energized.

Emergency Chain Hoist:
When pulled, will automatically engage the manual mode and door can be opened or closed manually in the event of power failure.

Rated for continuous duty (capacitor start on single phase) 3/4 H.P. (560W) 110V. or 220V. single phase, 1 H.P. (746W) 208V., 460V., 550V., three phase.

Limit Switches:
Rotary type friction free oilite bronze cams, travelling on 3/8" (0.95cm) threaded shaft which rotates on oilite bushings. Cams are adjustable externally by hand, without tools. Cams on their preset travel activate the micro switch to cut power of motor control in both open and close directions. Operating force on limit switch: 4 oz. (113.4g). Maximum contact separation: .020" (.05cm). Limit switch housing of die-cast zinc alloy with transparent polycarbonite cover.

Manual Overload Relay:
Protects motor from overcurrent and under voltage. Manual reset.

25 V.A. Step-Down Transformer:
120V., 240V. A.C. primary to 24V. A.C. secondary, Class II.
208V., 460V., 600V. A.C. primary to 24V. A.C. secondary, Class II.

Unit is factory pre-wired, colour coded and tagged.
Wiring diagrams are enclosed with each operator.
Operator is pre-run and tested before shipment.
